I teach that the horse’s mouth is sacred – as it has been taught for many, many centuries.

What do you do when at a clinic, it is made painfully apparent that the horses are asked too much when they are not physically or mentally ready? 

A common cause: quite often a horse will display unwanted behaviour for a simple reason; pain, discomfort, insecurity or fear.

As horse owners, riders and handlers, we hold a great responsibility. Riding horses is not “natural”.

So many riders are well acquainted with good ol’ adrenaline. It is anxiety-inducing, sometimes difficult to control – an energy high! 

I often feel like I am looking at something entirely different to many of my peers, to so many of my friends and to what sometimes feels like a majority of the horse world. 

In the beginning, it was my own story – my issues and lack of understanding which set me on the path to my passion and what is now becoming the beginning of my life’s work.

As a trainer, it is common to see behavioural issues in horses arise from the rider’s lack of patience.
